COMPONEX INTRODUCES A NEW CONCEPT IN BEARING DESIGN - THE NEW 2" WINERTIA™ BEARING
Edgerton, WI, June 12, 2006 — Componex has delivered a new concept in bearing design to the converting market with the introduction of the 2" WINertia™ Bearing. For years the industry standard for 2" bearings has been to manufacture them with a 4"OD (outer diameter). Now Componex has designed a new generation of 2" bearings with an OD of only 3.149".
“We set out to give our customers a clear-cut, differentiated value and we have achieved that with our 2" bearing. Not all bearings are best suited for idler rolls, but this one is specifically designed for them. Our WINertia™ 2" bearing is only 1.2 pounds - that's less than half the weight of a standard 2" bearing. And the 3.149" OD means less rotational inertia,” stated Cal Couillard, Senior Design Engineer for Componex. “The design, materials, and race dimensions in our WINertia 2" give this bearing an incredibly free spin and a longer life.”
All WINertia bearings feature:
- Alloy: 52100 vacuum degassed steel
- Fiberglass reinforced nylon cages - maximizes free spin and quiets operation
- Honed raceways - maximizes free spin and extends life
- Shields and non-contact seals to avoid contamination
- Synthetic fluoropolymer lubricant - minimizes drag and extends life
Ideally, WINertia™ 2" bearings are used in conjunction with Componex's strong, lightweight 2" tubular shaft for rolls of 50" and over. The chrome-plated tube shaft is manufactured with 1/4" outer wall and weighs just 4.5 pounds per foot. That's 1.5 pounds less per foot than a solid 1.5" shaft, with twice the deflection strength. The tubular shaft is designed to deliver all the strength that the 2" diameter offers, and at a significantly lighter weight.
